A delegation from Sierra Leone’s Under-17 Wrestling Team has departed Freetown for Bissau to compete in the 2026 West African Wrestling Championships.

The regional tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics.

The championship will begin with a five-day training camp from April 6 to April 10, 2026, allowing participating teams to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the main competition. Official matches are scheduled for April 11 and April 12 in Bissau.

Sierra Leone will be represented by three young athletes, accompanied by a coach. The team will compete in both freestyle and beach wrestling categories.

The athletes are:

Alimamy Kamara – 60kg Men’s Freestyle and 60kg Men’s Beach Wrestling

Nenneh Isata Shaw – 61kg Women’s Freestyle and 65kg Women’s Beach Wrestling

Fatmata Binta Bah – 65kg Women’s Freestyle and 65kg Women’s Beach Wrestling

The West African Championships offer a platform for young wrestlers to gain international exposure and accumulate points toward qualification for the Youth Olympics later this year.
