The Ministry of Social Welfare has announced the successful discharge of 50 individuals from the Gondama Rehabilitation Camp after they completed a two-month intensive therapy and support program.

This initiative is a key part of the government’s efforts to promote youth empowerment and combat drug abuse across Sierra Leone.

Minister Melrose Karminty emphasized the urgent need to address substance abuse, particularly among young people.

She stated, “This is a crucial time for every Sierra Leonean to prioritize their well-being by steering clear of harmful substances such as Kush, tramadol, ecstasy, and molly.”

The 50 individuals who completed the program received comprehensive counseling, life skills training, and ongoing support designed to aid their transition back into society. This marks a significant milestone in the government’s strategy to tackle drug addiction and its far-reaching impact on communities.

The Ministry has pledged to provide continued assistance to the discharged individuals, offering access to education and employment pathways to ensure their long-term recovery and successful reintegration into society.

This initiative is seen as a concrete step towards creating drug-free communities in Sierra Leone and signals a positive cultural shift in how addiction is addressed and those in need are supported. By offering comprehensive support and opportunities for growth, the Ministry is setting a precedent for effectively tackling complex issues like drug abuse.

The Ministry of Social Welfare highlighted that this development underscores the government’s commitment to promoting the well-being of its citizens and fostering a more inclusive and supportive society for all.
