The First Lady, Fatima Bio, was recognised as one of the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women during an award ceremony held on Friday night at the Freetown International Conference Centre.

The event brought together women from a wide range of backgrounds who have made important contributions across different sectors in Sierra Leone. The gathering included public figures, professionals, and leaders who continue to impact the nation in meaningful ways. Among the guests was Madam Fatoumata Tambajang, former Vice President of The Gambia, whose attendance added to the importance of the occasion.

At the ceremony, the First Lady received an award in recognition of her ongoing efforts to empower and protect women and girls throughout Sierra Leone. In addition to this personal honour, she also accepted an award on behalf of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio. This award recognised the President’s dedication to upholding democracy and good governance in the country, as well as his role as Sierra Leone’s HeForShe President, championing gender equality.

The ceremony served as a gathering to celebrate the strength and resilience of women in society. It also reflected on the important roles women continue to play, both past and present, and the progress made toward inclusion and equity. The event acted as a reminder of the work still needed to create a society where all voices, especially women’s, are heard and valued.
