A yacht with three Filipino crew members drifted ashore at Beach One in Hamilton today, prompting a joint response from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Navy and the Sierra Leone Police Maritime Unit.
Despite initial concerns from eyewitnesses suggesting the vessel carried a large quantity of cocaine, authorities reported finding nothing of police interest or security concern during their search.
The yacht, identified as the Agios Basseterre, made landfall at approximately 10:30 AM. Local authorities were quickly alerted to the situation and cordoned off the scene to investigate.

According to a press release issued by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), a thorough search of the vessel was conducted. However, no illicit drugs or other concerning items were discovered. Investigators were informed that the yacht had experienced engine failure, causing it to drift to the coastline.
The Sierra Leone Police commended the public for their vigilance and timely assistance. Efforts are currently underway to tow the Agios Basseterre to the Naval Base in Murray Town for further examination.
The SLP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the country.
