In a startling development, the personal bodyguard of rising Sierra Leonean music sensation Jacob Therapist has been reportedly arrested in a major drug trafficking operation at the Bo Waterside Port of entry, Grand Cape Mount County.

The bodyguard, was taken into custody alongside three others  including popular Sierra Leonean artist Alonzo Yeah (aka Alonso Abasi) after authorities discovered 844 grams of Methcathinone, a powerful synthetic stimulant, hidden inside a blue Nissan Primera (Plate #: A120421) during a routine inspection.

The seized drugs are estimated to be worth USD 8,440, equivalent to 1,688,000 Liberian Dollars, and mark the first known attempt to introduce Methcathinone into the Liberian drug market.

Arrested Individuals Include:

Jacob Therapist’s bodyguard, Liberian national

Alonso Abasi (Alonso Yeah), 35, a musician and public anti-drug advocate

Eariel Xavises Aweti, 36, Sierra Leonean

Samuel R. Grey, 28, Sierra Leonean

Matthew Sherman, 25, resident of VOA Community, Liberia

This has led many to say that the involvement of a close associate of Jacob Therapist raises serious questions about the infiltration of drug networks into the country’s entertainment industry. While the musician himself is not implicated at this time, the arrest of his bodyguard is likely to trigger further investigations into his entourage and affiliates

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has confirmed that all suspects are now in custody and will be forwarded to court for prosecution.
