The Western Region Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Zainab Umu Moseray, has called for renewed efforts to ensure the credibility of the country’s 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the review and validation meeting of ECSL’s Risk and Management Framework and Policy at the New Brookfield Hotel in Freetown, Moseray said lessons from the 2007, 2012, 2018, and 2023 elections should guide future improvements. The event was supported by the European Union (EU) through the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and attended by ECSL commissioners, EU officials, representatives from International IDEA, and the Electoral Commission of South Africa.
According to Moseray, the new framework represents a strategic commitment to protecting electoral integrity and rebuilding public trust. She noted that political parties, civil society organizations, and development partners should be actively involved in its implementation, as addressing electoral risks requires collaborative action.
Moseray also acknowledged the support of the EU, International IDEA, and the Electoral Commission of South Africa, reaffirming ECSL’s commitment to reforms, innovation, and strengthening its institutional capacity ahead of 2028. She stressed that the framework should remain an active tool to guide electoral processes and help deliver transparent and credible elections.
