Sierra Leone and AFS Intercultural Programs have signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at empowering young leaders through intercultural learning and global education.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah and AFS President and CEO Daniel Obst during the closing ceremony of Sierra Leone’s side event at the annual AFS Youth Assembly.

AFS Intercultural Programs, a century-old global non-profit operating in over 60 countries, is dedicated to fostering peace and justice through exchange programs and education.

This strategic partnership, two years in the making, will provide Sierra Leonean students, educators, and young leaders access to prestigious initiatives including the AFS Global STEM Accelerators, Global STEM Educator program, Effect+ for the Classroom, and participation in the AFS Youth Assembly.

Minister Bah highlighted the personal and national significance of the partnership, recalling his long association with AFS dating back to his youth advocacy, and his keynote speech at their centennial event in Paris in 2014.

He emphasized the agreement’s role in developing confident, globally minded changemakers in Sierra Leone.

The partnership will facilitate cross-cultural training, leadership development, and exchange programs to build global competencies, promote social entrepreneurship, and inspire civic engagement both locally and internationally.

Daniel Obst described the agreement as a milestone in expanding access to transformative intercultural experiences, expressing enthusiasm for working together to equip young people with the skills and networks needed to address global challenges and lead in their communities.

This signing marks the beginning of a powerful new chapter in Sierra Leone’s efforts to foster an inclusive, empowered, and globally connected future for its youth.
