On August 11, the Moyamba District Council Hall hosted a vital training session aimed at strengthening budget management and accountability among Civil Society Organizations, Women Community Solidarity Groups, and key sectors such as Agriculture, Health, and Education.
This initiative, powered by the Media and Communication Unit of NeSPE, is part of an ongoing effort to enhance governance and accountability in the region.
In collaboration with NeSPE/THO, BAN Sierra Leone successfully concluded a capacity-building training attended by 25 participants. The program concentrated on essential elements of council development plan processes and governance models that foster accountability, transparency, and democratic governance.
Participants engaged in comprehensive sessions covering a range of topics, including:
- Budget Cycle Management
- Advocacy and Revenue Mobilization
-Gender Budgeting and Mainstreaming - Project and Programme Monitoring
-Human Rights-Based Approaches
Facilitated by experts in gender-responsive governance, the training aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of gender dynamics and their influence on national policies and resource allocation.

Abdul Rahman M. Sesay, the BAN Project Team Lead, emphasized the importance of the training, highlighting topics such as budget tracking, gender equality concepts, and public financial management. He noted that these skills are crucial for effective monitoring and evaluation in the context of gender-responsive budgeting.
Gboruwa Sillah, Chief Administrator of Moyamba District Council, described the training as “important and educative.” He underscored its significance in supporting gender-sensitive legislation and equipping parliament with the necessary tools to mainstream gender in governance.

This training marks a crucial step towards empowering local communities and enhancing the capacity of organizations to advocate for equitable resource allocation and governance practices in Sierra Leone.
