Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu, Sierra Leone’s envoy in Brussels, has held a high-level meeting with officials of SN Brussels Airlines to discuss ways of enhancing the travel experience for passengers, particularly those traveling to West African nations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jusu highlighted the longstanding relationship between Sierra Leone and SN Brussels Airlines, noting the airline’s continued support despite growing competition in the Sierra Leonean aviation sector.
He also addressed recent incidents in which Sierra Leonean passengers were stranded due to visa restrictions that led to flight cancellations. “As diplomatic partners, there is a need for respect and open dialogue to prevent such situations in the future,” Jusu said.
Deputy Ambassador Asmaa James emphasized the importance of effective communication strategies to ensure passengers are well-informed and inconveniences minimized.
In response, Saeys-Desmedt of SN Brussels Airlines reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to preventing similar incidents. “We will engage with Belgian authorities to explore possible exemptions to Schengen visa rules for stranded passengers and consider alternative arrangements for entering the Schengen zone,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a shared pledge to strengthen cooperation between Sierra Leone and European aviation partners, focusing on improving connectivity and ensuring dignified treatment for all travelers.
Both the embassy and SN Brussels Airlines agreed to continue collaborative efforts to enhance the passenger experience.
