Justice Alfred Ganda has sentenced 24-year-old Abdulai Kemokai to two and a half years in prison after he pleaded guilty to housebreaking and larceny involving property belonging to his elder sister, valued at Le 32,750.

Delivering judgment at the Main Law Court Building in Freetown, Justice Ganda said he considered the convict’s guilty plea, his status as a first-time offender, and his appeal for mercy before handing down the sentence.

Lead defence counsel C. Taylor-Young pleaded for leniency, describing Kemokai as a young man with potential who showed genuine remorse for his actions.

Prosecuting counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay told the court that on 28 February 2025, Kemokai was entrusted with the care of his sister’s home in Mothem Village, along the Regent-Grafton Highway, while she travelled to the provinces. Upon her return, she discovered several items missing, including a mobile phone and a Bluetooth device.

Initially denying any involvement, Kemokai later confessed to police and admitted to selling some of the stolen items in Wellington, Freetown. None of the stolen property was recovered.

The case forms part of the ongoing September 2025 criminal call-over session, initially opened by Chief Justice Komba Kamanda.
