The Office of National Security (ONS) in Tonkolili District has instructed the Sierra Leone Police Division in Mile 91 to investigate the Chief Executive Officer of News Journal Media, Mohamed Muckson Sesay, over a false publication that claimed a missing girl had been found dead.

The article, titled “Shock and Grief Grips Mile 91 After Missing Girl Found Dead” and authored by Alie Kargbo, alleged that a young girl had died eight days after her disappearance.

Following verification, the ONS confirmed the story was false and without factual basis. The report, published on the News Journal Media platform and widely shared on social media, triggered alarm within the Mile 91 community, prompting calls for an official probe.

Hon. Aaron Koroma, Member of Parliament for the area, condemned the publication, urging the media house to exercise greater responsibility.

“You’re building a credible platform, so you must thoroughly verify information before publishing. I have been reliably informed by the SLP Division in Mile 91 that the story is baseless and no such complaint was ever received,” he said.

The ONS described the publication as reckless and a potential security concern capable of undermining public trust and community stability. It has directed police to summon both the CEO and the author to provide evidence supporting their claims.

Meanwhile, the Mile 91 Police Division has yet to make an official statement regarding either the article or the ONS directive.
