The Whip of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Parliament, Honorable Abdul Karim Kamara, has raised serious concerns over what he described as unchecked government spending and a lack of leadership continuity during President Julius Maada Bio’s foreign trips.

Speaking during an interview on AYV On Sunday, Hon. Kamara questioned the government’s claims of expenditure reduction, citing data from Lungi International Airport showing that over 300 public officials have traveled abroad this year alone.

“If we look at the manifest for Lungi Airport, over 300 public officials traveled abroad this year, and we call that a reduction in government expenditures?” he asked.

“Meanwhile, there are 25 parliamentary consultations that I have never seen discussed in parliament. So, our question is: where are these funds going, and what exactly are these consultants being paid for?”

Hon. Kamara also criticized the governance structure under President Bio, alleging that the Vice President has been sidelined from executive functions. He claimed that the President’s frequent travels create a leadership vacuum that affects state operations.

“President Bio has been the only president who has not allowed his vice president to chair a single cabinet meeting. This means that when the President travels, there is a vacuum in the office of the presidency. As a result, when the President travels, the country comes to a standstill, and many public institutions do not operate. Why? Because there is no one to oversee the affairs of the state,” he stated.

The opposition whip’s remarks have sparked public debate on the administration’s travel policies, fiscal discipline, and institutional efficiency. Government officials are yet to formally respond to the allegations.
