A 43-year-old trader, Salmanta Sesay, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on Monday, facing three charges: wounding with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, in violation of Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

According to court particulars, on Monday, June 9, 2025, at #15 Genet Lane, Kingtom, Sesay allegedly wounded Esther Kamara with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The second and third charges allege that on the same date and location, Sesay maliciously wounded and assaulted the complainant, causing actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained, no plea was entered.

Sergeant 8811 Flow Wilson led the prosecution, calling Fatmata Jusu, a businesswoman, as a witness. Jusu testified that she recognized Esther Kamara as her sister and Salmanta Sesay as her neighbor.

She recounted that while laundering clothes at home, she received a call from the defendant’s child about a fight between Sesay and Kamara. She rushed to the scene and found Esther Kamara on the ground, crying and bleeding from her foot, though she did not see the defendant there.

Fatmata Jusu used her phone to photograph the injury and later took Kamara to the Adelaide Street Police Station to report the incident. The photographs were printed and submitted as evidence in court. The witness was cross-examined by L. Ellis Esq.

Citing the seriousness of the offences, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and remanded the defendant at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2025.
