The Joint Special Unit of the National Taskforce for Drug and Substance Abuse successfully intercepted and confiscated approximately 118 kilograms (118 kg) of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa during a raid in Benguma on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The seizure marks a significant success for the multi-agency unit, underscoring the intensified efforts by the National Taskforce to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs across the region.
The Joint Special Unit, which comprises personnel from various law enforcement and security agencies, has been actively working to dismantle drug trafficking networks.
These networks have been increasingly linked to rising crime rates and the devastating impact of substance abuse, particularly among the nation’s youth.
Authorities involved in the operation have vowed a continued crackdown.
The Joint Special Unit demonstrated its commitment to rooting out the elements responsible for the illegal importation and distribution of illicit substances, including cannabis and the highly dangerous synthetic drug ‘Kush,’ which government officials have described as posing a national emergency.
