During the Ministry of Information and Civic Education press conference on January 16th, 2024, significant revelations were made by Andrew Lavali, the Executive Director of the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR).
Lavali disclosed that the IGR’s Biometer analysis of President Bio’s promises from the previous year indicated a noteworthy achievement rate. According to their findings, 79% of the promises made by President Bio were either partially achieved or fully realized.
In light of this assessment, Lavali took the opportunity to encourage citizens to actively embrace the National Development Plan. He stressed the importance of aligning individual aspirations with the goals outlined in the plan. Lavali emphasized the collective responsibility of Sierra Leoneans in contributing to the success of the National Development Plan, stating that it serves as a roadmap for the nation’s progress.
The Executive Director urged citizens to take ownership of the Development Plan, asserting that its success would bring about widespread benefits for the entire population. By fostering a sense of shared commitment and responsibility, Lavali expressed confidence that Sierra Leoneans could collectively work towards the realization of their dreams and aspirations.
As a concrete step toward transparency and public engagement, Lavali announced that the National Development Plan would be made accessible to the public by January 30th. This move aims to keep citizens informed and involved in the nation’s development trajectory. The availability of the plan to the public is expected to facilitate a deeper understanding of the government’s vision and objectives, fostering a sense of inclusion and shared purpose among the citizens.
Andrew Lavali’s announcements during the press conference highlighted both the achievements of President Bio’s promises and the importance of citizen involvement in the National Development Plan. The call to embrace the plan and work towards its success underscores the significance of collective efforts in shaping Sierra Leone’s future. With the impending release of the National Development Plan to the public, there is a tangible effort to enhance transparency and encourage active participation in the country’s development journey.
