Sierra Leone is set to expand its air travel connectivity with the introduction of TUI Airways, the UK’s largest charter airline, following a pre-operational engagement and security audit at Freetown International Airport today.

The move comes under the leadership of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and the Director General of Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie.

TUI Airways, formerly known as Thomson Airways, is a 3-Star certified leisure airline, part of the global TUI Group. The airline flies holidaymakers from the UK and Ireland to a range of destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.

TUI operates a fleet that includes Boeing Dreamliners and offers both package holiday flights and flight-only options. The airline also provides premium seating upgrades and a range of other customer-friendly services like online check-ins and generous baggage allowances.

During today’s visit, the SLCAA welcomed the TUI Airways delegation for an initial engagement aimed at assessing the operational and security standards at Freetown International Airport, ensuring all required procedures and protocols are in place.

According to the SLCAA, the country is committed to upholding international aviation standards, maintaining transparency, and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance the aviation sector.

The addition of TUI Airways to Sierra Leone’s air routes is expected to strengthen international connectivity, boost tourism, and create new economic opportunities.

The partnership with TUI Airways signals further growth and development for the country’s aviation industry, providing more options for travelers and supporting Sierra Leone’s economic growth through enhanced tourism and connectivity.
