The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has presented key security updates, operational achievements, and public safety guidelines during its weekly press conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom.

Chairing the briefing, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations, opened the session with a report on his recent strategic mission to Liberia. He disclosed that he led the SLP delegation to engage the Liberia National Police on collaborative security efforts and mutual operational interests.

AIG Senesie also provided updates on ongoing police operations ordered by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu. The operations target abandoned and improperly parked vehicles along major roads particularly in eastern Freetown with the objective of improving vehicular movement and reducing traffic congestion across the city.

As the festive season approaches, AIG Senesie assured the public that security has been intensified nationwide. He noted that regular inspections of Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) are being carried out to ensure full compliance with the approved security plan. He added that both residents and visitors, including members of the diaspora returning for the holidays, can expect a safe and enabling environment for their activities, day and night.

Deputy Regional Commander, Eastern Province, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Morie Kamara, briefed the press on policing activities carried out in the past week. He highlighted arrests made, cases under investigation, and matters that have been charged to court. ACP Kamara also reported that Paramount Chief elections in the Eastern Province were conducted in a “relatively peaceful” atmosphere.

In another update, the Head of the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Rev. Michael Laggah, presented four suspects arrested with cartons of suspected Tramadol and parcels of dried leaves believed to be cannabis. The suspects and exhibits are currently under investigation.

Delivering key public reminders, the Head of Media and Public Relations, ACP Brima Kamara, underscored several points highlighted in the SLP Public Notice for the festive season:

Playing loud music after 10:00 p.m. is prohibited, following rising complaints from residents about excessive community noise.

Drivers must not operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol. Traffic officers have been equipped with breathalysers to test suspected offenders.

Passenger vehicles must strictly adhere to their designated purpose. Drivers transporting both passengers and goods simultaneously will face arrest.

ACP Kamara also announced that the Police Wives Association will host an outing at Sugar Land Beach on Saturday, 13 December 2025. The event is open to the public, with tickets sold at one hundred Leones. Food will be provided free of charge while drinks will be available for purchase. He noted that proceeds from previous events have supported major developments, including solar-powered boreholes in police barracks nationwide.

AIG Senesie further reported a compassionate intervention at the Central Police Station, where officers assisted a pregnant woman who had been denied admission at a health facility. She delivered safely inside a tricycle (Kekeh) while being transported to the Police Hospital at Kingtom. Both mother and baby are reportedly in good condition.
