The National Revenue Authority (NRA), through its Excise Office of the Domestic Tax Department, carried out a significant enforcement operation along Abacha Street in Freetown on Wednesday.

The operation targeted retail outlets selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, where NRA officers identified several products being offered for sale without the required Excise Stamps.

The enforcement action came after months of education and awareness campaigns by the NRA to inform local traders and shop owners about their legal obligations regarding Excise tax. These efforts, which included workshops and meetings with businesses, were intended to ensure compliance with the law.

According to the NRA, the excisable products found without the mandatory stamps were immediately seized. The stamps, which are issued by the NRA, indicate that Excise duties have been paid on the products. Selling goods without these stamps is a violation of Excise tax regulations, and it is considered illegal.

Affected business owners were informed of the violations and were advised on how to correct the issues and bring their operations into compliance. The NRA emphasized the importance of adhering to tax obligations to maintain a level playing field among businesses and to help safeguard government revenue.

In a statement, the NRA reminded all traders and importers that selling unstamped excisable goods is unlawful and that the Authority will continue to enforce Excise tax compliance to ensure fair trade practices across the country.

The National Revenue Authority expressed commitment to its role in protecting government revenue and ensuring that businesses adhere to the country’s tax laws.
