The Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone has on Friday, December 19, 2025, passed into law the 2026 Appropriation Act, approving a national budget of more than NLe27 billion to fund government services for the 2026 financial year.
The bill, titled “The Appropriation Act of 2026 for the Services of Sierra Leone,” was passed after what Parliament described as a rigorous and effective debate, followed by detailed scrutiny at the committee stage, particularly within the Committee of Supply. Lawmakers adopted the bill with some amendments before its final passage.
According to Parliament, the approved budget is estimated at a total sum of NLe 27,717,307,300 (twenty-seven billion, seven hundred and seventeen million, three hundred and seven thousand, three hundred leones) only.
The theme of the 2026 Appropriation Act focuses on enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation to sustain economic development and improve effective service delivery across the country.
The legislation authorises expenditure from the Consolidated Fund for the services of Sierra Leone during the 2026 financial year and provides for other related matters.
During the committee stage, Members of Parliament examined the budget proposals in detail, assessing allocations and efficiency in line with national development priorities. The amendments made were aimed at strengthening accountability and ensuring prudent use of public funds.
With the passage of the Act, Parliament has given legal backing to government spending plans for 2026, marking a key step in the country’s fiscal planning process. The enactment of the Appropriation Act now allows the government to implement its programmes and policies as approved by the legislature for the coming year.
