All People’s Congress (APC) politician and aspiring Flagbearer Sheikh Alhaji Chief Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, has held a meeting with Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden following his earlier public condemnation of gender-based attacks targeted at her and other female politicians.
On 7 October 2025, Jagaban issued a directive through team member Dr. John Idriss Lahai, calling on members of his campaign structure to cease participation in gender-based online and verbal attacks. The statement described such actions as unacceptable, particularly against women who have contributed to national development.
According to Dr. Blyden, Jagaban’s stance represented “true He-for-She leadership” and marked a rare public intervention by a male political figure in defense of women in politics. She noted that his position distinguished him from political actors who, she said, had tolerated or enabled verbal abuse and intimidation against female leaders.
Dr. Blyden returned to Sierra Leone on Christmas Day and on 27 December hosted Jagaban and his team at her private residence in Freetown, where both parties reportedly discussed issues of mutual interest and the promotion of respectful political engagement. She expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed her commitment to constructive dialogue in the interest of national cohesion.
Jagaban’s earlier October statement emphasized discipline within his support structures and called for restraint and respect toward women in public life.
The engagement has been described as a symbolic step toward strengthening political civility and advancing protection for women participating in national politics.
