Hon. Musa Tarawallie, one of the leading personalities seeking to become flagbearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ahead of the 2028 presidential election, has issued a strong public statement over what he described as a dangerous and politically explosive social media narrative that could undermine peace, provoke tension, and damage relations between himself and the leadership of the country.
In a video broadcast widely circulated online, Musa Tarawallie said he had been closely monitoring emerging discussions on social media and had received several calls from concerned individuals who drew his attention to posts and commentaries allegedly published by a blogger he identified as Samura.
According to Musa Tarawallie, the blogger has been circulating claims suggesting that Her Excellency the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, bought a house for him and is allegedly supporting him in a way that encourages sustained political attacks against Musa Tarawallie.
Musa Tarawallie said the information being propagated online is not only damaging to his reputation but also dangerously capable of escalating political divisions within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and across the broader national political landscape.
He explained that the content being circulated was presented in a manner aimed at creating distrust, inflaming supporters, and provoking suspicion at the highest level of governance—an outcome he said could destabilize peace if not addressed with urgency and responsibility.
Describing the situation as a serious matter of national concern, Musa Tarawallie warned that Sierra Leone’s hard-won peace must not be threatened by political indiscipline, propaganda, and the increasing use of unregulated online activism to shape narratives, target opponents, and manipulate public perception.
He said the issue goes beyond ordinary political rivalry and reflects a growing trend where social media platforms are being weaponized for blackmail, intimidation, and character assassination—often without consequences.
Musa Tarawallie further alleged that the same blogger had previously faced arrest over similar conduct, but that in this current matter, the process of justice appears to be clouded by claims of interference and unequal application of the rule of law.
According to him, these developments raise troubling questions about fairness and accountability, stressing that the rule of law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of status, influence, or proximity to authority.
Addressing President Dr. Julius Maada Bio directly, Musa Tarawallie appealed for leadership intervention, emphasizing that the nation has worked tirelessly over the years to maintain stability and cannot afford a relapse into unnecessary political hostility.
In what appeared to be a deeply emotional appeal, he urged the President to ensure discipline within the political environment, warning that perceptions of intimidation and political interference, if left unaddressed, could create serious internal problems among political actors.
Musa Tarawallie also raised concerns over what he described as an increasing “ambience of power” being projected in ways that could intimidate citizens and political stakeholders. He alleged that vulnerable youths are being influenced or used to insult others online, a trend he described as unacceptable and harmful to national unity.
He claimed that he had been informed about personal and family-related insults allegedly targeted at him online, which he said was deeply offensive and painful, adding that such conduct should have no place in the country’s political culture.
Musa Tarawallie insisted that maintaining discipline and respect in politics remains a responsibility of leadership, warning that unchecked indiscipline and intimidation could provoke serious consequences if allowed to grow.
He further claimed that the pattern of hostile online attacks and political disrespect is not isolated, alleging that he has witnessed similar tensions directed at senior figures within the party itself, including the Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
He emphasized that the SLPP must remain a party built on internal democracy, unity, and maturity, noting that reckless narratives and impunity could weaken the party’s cohesion and credibility ahead of future national elections.
Beyond his personal concerns, Musa Tarawallie renewed calls for stricter regulation and monitoring of online platforms, warning that the growing influence of unverified blogging poses a real threat to national peace and political tolerance.
He noted that Sierra Leone has credible print and electronic media institutions that operate professionally to disseminate verified information, and cautioned that allowing unregulated online propaganda to flourish could inflame tensions, promote misinformation, and create deeper political distrust.
Musa Tarawallie concluded by calling on party stakeholders, national leadership, and relevant institutions to take the matter seriously and act in the interest of peace, fairness, and national stability, insisting that Sierra Leone must not become a country where social media accusations and political intimidation override truth, discipline, and the rule of law.
