As Sierra Leone reflects on achievements recorded in 2025, the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) under the Ministry of Health has expressed appreciation to District Health Management Team (DHMT) staff, development partners, and key stakeholders for their continued support in strengthening routine immunization services nationwide.
In a statement issued following the conclusion of the 2025 Annual Review Meeting, EPI acknowledged the collective efforts of partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF Sierra Leone, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Africa CDC, Population Services International–Sierra Leone, civil society organizations (CSOs), sister programmes, and various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to the programme, consistent collaboration and active stakeholder engagement throughout the year played a critical role in improving vaccine delivery systems and ensuring that children across the country are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.
EPI highlighted the dedication of District Health Management Teams, describing them as the backbone of immunization service delivery at the community level. Their commitment, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, contributed significantly to sustaining routine immunization coverage and strengthening public confidence in the health system.
The Ministry of Health noted that the 2025 Annual Review Meeting served as an important platform for reflection, learning, and strategic planning, enabling stakeholders to assess progress, identify gaps, and agree on collective actions to further improve immunization outcomes.
“Your dedication and support remain vital to strengthening routine immunization services and ensuring that every child in Sierra Leone is protected against vaccine-preventable diseases,” the statement said.
Looking ahead, EPI reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with partners to build on the gains made in 2025, improve service quality, and reach underserved populations. The programme emphasized that sustained partnership, innovation, and shared responsibility will remain key to achieving national and global immunization goals.
As Sierra Leone advances its public health agenda, the Ministry of Health called for continued collaboration and renewed commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of children nationwide, noting that immunization remains one of the most effective tools for saving lives and strengthening the country’s health system.
