All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament and flagbearer aspirant, Osman Timbo, has publicly challenged the legality of the ongoing constitutional amendment process, insisting that a key procedural requirement was not fulfilled.
In a statement issued after engaging with recent media discussions, Hon. Timbo disclosed that he had listened to an interview granted by the Attorney General on Epic Radio 99.3 FM and Slik TV Channel 37, and had also carefully reviewed the Attorney General’s written response to a letter he previously sent. Timbo further noted that he shared his position during an interview on AYV Sierra Leone.
According to the lawmaker, the Attorney General’s reply confirms his concerns that the second publication of the Gazette relating to the Bill was never made on January 2, 2026, as required.
“I can now say categorically that the second Gazette was never published on the 2nd of January 2026,” Timbo asserted, stressing that the issue is not a matter of parliamentary procedure but a mandatory constitutional obligation.
He has therefore called on Attorney General Alpha Sesay to withdraw the Bill, ensure the proper second publication of the Gazette, and re-lay it before Parliament in compliance with constitutional provisions.
Hon. Timbo emphasized that Section 108(8) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 clearly outlines the process for constitutional amendments and warns that any attempt to alter the Constitution without following due process amounts to treason.
The APC MP maintained that adherence to constitutional requirements is essential to safeguarding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of Sierra Leone’s democratic framework.
