Senior officials at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), including the Director General, Deputy Director General, and Commercial Director, have been formally queried by the corporation’s Board of Trustees over alleged financial irregularities, according to sources within the organisation.

The corporation’s Director of Finance has been suspended pending further investigations.

Allegations suggest that significant sums of money may have been misappropriated and that internal financial controls may be weak, with insufficient oversight of expenditures. Reports indicate that the Director General may have made payments without proper documentation or adherence to standard auditing procedures.

Additional concerns relate to internal financial practices, including claims that multiple cheques were collected by a single individual in one day, potentially breaching governance protocols.

There are also conflicting accounts regarding a recently acquired vehicle by the Director General. While earlier reports suggested a Board-approved budget of $60,000 for a new vehicle, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Williette James, has stated that she was unaware of the expenditure and only learned of the purchase through social media.

At this stage, the allegations remain unverified, and the Director General has not publicly commented on the claims. The SLBC Board of Trustees has scheduled a meeting with staff for Thursday, 26 February, to address the situation and provide further clarity.
