A high-level delegation, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Dr. Henry Kpaka, and the Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mr. Joseph J. Senesie, alongside the Resident Minister of the North East, Hon. Ibrahim Jalloh, visited Rolako and Mafanta Correctional Centres in Magburaka, Tonkolili District.
The visit was part of a comprehensive needs assessment aimed at preparing the Correctional Services for a large-scale agricultural project. The initiative is expected to support the government’s Feed Salone agenda while enhancing rehabilitation, reformation, and income-generating opportunities for inmates.
During the assessment, officials highlighted the project’s long-term goal: enabling Correctional Services to produce sufficient food to meet the nutritional needs of inmates nationwide. This is anticipated to reduce government expenditure while promoting self-reliance within the correctional system.
The delegation’s visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to transforming correctional facilities into productive institutions that contribute to national development and provide opportunities for inmate rehabilitation.
