Ibrahim Bangura, a contender for the presidential ticket of the All People’s Congress (APC) ahead of the 2028 elections, has donated US$2,000 to support Sierra Leoneans stranded in Kuwait amid an ongoing conflict in the Middle East region.

The donation, described as an emergency humanitarian intervention, was channeled through Alusine Kargbo, who serves as the APC Coordinator in Kuwait. The funds are intended to provide immediate relief, including food, shelter, and other urgent assistance to affected Sierra Leoneans.

According to information from the initiative, the conflict in the Middle has left many Sierra Leonean immigrants in Kuwait in distress. Several individuals have reportedly lost their jobs and accommodation, while access to basic necessities has become increasingly difficult. The situation has also led to family separations, with many facing uncertainty about their safety and future.

Bangura’s contribution aims to ease the immediate hardship faced by those impacted, as conditions remain challenging for Sierra Leoneans caught in the crisis.

Report indicated that the funds will be used directly to address the most pressing needs of the affected individuals, as coordination continues on the ground to support members of the Sierra Leonean community during the ongoing situation.

War between Iran, Israel and the United States has affected hundreds of Sierra Leoneans living in the Middle East, especially Lebanon, Kuwait and the Emirati city of Dubai. Earlier in March, the Sierra Leone government evacuated some Sierra Leoneans from the region while urging others to take precaution.

At least 2,000 people have died in the region since war broke out in late February, 2026.
