CCTV footage presented in court has allegedly linked former Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) camera operator, Osman Daramy, to a reported break-in at the institution’s New England Ville premises, even as he has been granted bail.
Daramy appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, where he is facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, along with multiple counts of office breaking and larceny.
Central to the prosecution’s case is surveillance footage retrieved from SLBC’s security system. Testifying before the court, Deputy Director General, Mohamed A. Bah, stated that the footage clearly places Daramy within restricted areas of the compound during the time of the alleged incident between January 5 and 6, 2026.
According to Bah, the recordings show Daramy climbing onto the roof and moving through sensitive sections of the facility, including areas leading to the Director General’s office, at the time the break-in reportedly occurred.
Further testimony from SLBC’s Director of Engineering, Alhaji Bangura, supported the prosecution’s claims. While noting that he did not witness the incident firsthand, Bangura told the court that the same footage showed the accused entering and exiting the vicinity where the alleged theft took place.
Prosecutors allege that properties stolen during the incident include a 43-inch plasma television valued at Le 6,000, a Samsung A-56 Android mobile phone valued at Le 5,000, and Le 2,000 in cash, all reportedly taken from the engineering office.
The accused did not take a plea, as the matter remains under preliminary investigation.
Despite the weight of the evidence presented, Magistrate John Manso Fornah granted bail to Daramy following a renewed application by defence counsel, A.N.D. Musa Esq. Bail was set at Le 30,000 with one surety in like sum.
The court further ordered that the surety must be a senior, responsible resident of Freetown with a fixed address, valid identification, and gainful employment, subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to April 1, 2026, as investigations continue.
