A nine-year-old girl died and multiple families were displaced after a fire swept through the Bottom Oku community in Wellington, destroying more than 10 homes.
According to local reports, the blaze spread rapidly through a densely populated area of “pan body” structures, leaving residents with little time to salvage their belongings.
The National Fire Force, assisted by local youths and community members, responded to the scene to eventually contain the flames.

While an official investigation is currently underway, early reports suggest authorities suspect an electrical fault may have triggered the fire.
The affected families, having lost their shelter and personal possessions, are now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and relief support.
