The Government of Sierra Leone has commenced nationwide enforcement of mandatory registration requirements for all foreign nationals residing and working within the country, as part of efforts to strengthen national security and improve migration management.
According to official directives, the exercise requires all non-citizens to obtain and maintain valid documentation, including non-national identity cards, residence permits, and work permits.
Authorities say the initiative is intended to establish a comprehensive and reliable database of foreign nationals, enabling better monitoring and regulation of their activities across the country.
The government has streamlined the application and renewal process by introducing an online platform.
Applications and renewals for residence and work permits can be completed online via the government portal: https://unifiedpermit.gov.sl
Foreign nationals can now apply for or renew residence and work permits through the unified government portal, a move aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility while reducing administrative bottlenecks.
While the policy has been framed as a necessary step toward enhancing national security and public order, it also places new obligations on foreign residents and employers to ensure full compliance with immigration regulations.
