Police personnel in the Kamakwie Division have been urged to adopt a more community-centred approach to policing in order to strengthen public trust and improve service delivery.

The call was made by the Local Unit Commander, Superintendent John S. Koroma, during a parade lecture where he emphasized the evolving role of the police—not only as enforcers of the law but also as partners in community development and guardians of public confidence.

Superintendent Koroma noted that effective policing extends beyond traditional duties, highlighting the importance of building strong relationships with the public. He encouraged officers to actively listen to community concerns, engage in meaningful dialogue, and adopt proactive strategies to prevent crime before it occurs.

He further stressed the importance of integrity and accountability, reminding personnel that public trust is anchored on transparency and ethical conduct. He cautioned officers against corruption and underscored the need for political neutrality, stating that professionalism must remain the foundation of all police actions.

The Local Unit Commander also highlighted the importance of equal access to justice, urging officers to serve all citizens fairly, regardless of background or status. He noted that such an approach would reinforce public confidence and contribute to national stability.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which officers shared practical ideas on improving policing strategies within their communities. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to promote a more responsive, disciplined, and people-oriented Sierra Leone Police force.
