The Government of Sierra Leone has moved to formalize a strategic partnership with Bühler AG, a global Swiss industrial technology company, aimed at accelerating the country’s agro-industrialization agenda by transforming raw agricultural produce into high-value products.

The partnership was advanced during a high-level food systems engagement held at the Brookfields Hotel in Freetown. The event was organized by the Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, bringing together government officials, private sector actors, and international development partners.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Henry Musa Kpaka, emphasized that the focus has shifted from planning to implementation. He identified value addition and the development of a strong agro-industrial base as key pillars of the government’s flagship Feed Salone programme.

“Our focus is on scaling value addition,” Minister Kpaka stated, stressing the need to reduce reliance on raw exports in favour of domestic processing.

Bühler AG, known globally for its advanced food processing technologies, is expected to play a central role in Sierra Leone’s Food Park Initiative.

Discussions at the engagement focused on practical steps to strengthen domestic processing, including improvements in the rice value chain, expansion of feed production, and the development of nutritious food systems.

The engagement is expected to conclude with business matchmaking sessions and a formal signing, marking a step toward translating discussions into concrete action and strengthening the country’s agro-industrial sector.
