National Petroleum (NP) Sierra Leone Limited has commemorated the 2026 World Day for Safety and Health at Work with a strong emphasis on promoting a healthy psychosocial working environment, reaffirming its commitment to workplace safety and employee wellbeing.

The event, held under the theme “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment,” featured a procession from Shell, Parsonage Street to the company’s terminal in Freetown.

The march attracted public attention and highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture within and beyond the workplace.

Staff, partners, and invited guests participated actively in the commemoration, using the occasion to reinforce the company’s safety standards and shared responsibility for occupational health.

The event also drew participation from key stakeholders, including regulatory institutions, the Sierra Leone Fire Force, customers, and BRV contractors, all contributing to discussions on improving workplace safety.

Delivering a key presentation, the Human Resource and Administration Manager, Georgina Williams, outlined several psychosocial hazards affecting workplaces.

She identified heavy workloads, unfair treatment, harassment, stress, and undefined roles as major concerns that can impact employee wellbeing and productivity.

Mrs. Williams stated that NP (SL) Limited is addressing these challenges through structured and deliberate measures, including promoting responsible communication, establishing clear work processes, and fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

Also speaking at the event, Kissy Fire Commander Musa Kasue commended the company for maintaining high safety standards. He noted NP SL’s continued commitment to preventive measures and adherence to safety regulations.

Reinforcing the company’s long-term vision, Chief Executive Officer Mohamed S. Kanu underscored NP SL’s dedication to aligning its operations with international best practices.

He highlighted the company’s commitment to the ISO 45001:2018 as part of its drive to achieve excellence in occupational health and safety management.

The commemoration concluded with a renewed commitment among staff and stakeholders to sustain a workplace culture grounded in safety, care, and shared responsibility, reflecting NP SL’s ongoing efforts to lead by example in promoting safe and healthy working conditions in Sierra Leone.
