The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, is participating in the 2026 Education World Forum in London, where he has joined global and African education leaders in discussions aimed at strengthening foundational learning systems.
Minister Sackey took part in the African Ministerial Welcome Breakfast, bringing together education ministers, senior representatives from the British Council, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Global Coalition for Foundational Learning, and other development partners.
The discussions focused on shared challenges in foundational learning across countries and the need for coordinated solutions to improve basic education outcomes.
He described the engagement as an opportunity for peer learning and collaboration, noting that the roundtable discussions provided space for frank exchanges on what is working in different education systems, what is not, and what bold policy actions are needed to ensure every child acquires essential literacy and numeracy skills.
Minister Sackey further emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to global education partnerships, stating that the country remains dedicated to ensuring that children receive the foundational skills required to thrive both nationally and internationally.
He added that participation in such global forums strengthens the Ministry’s efforts to align domestic education reforms with international best practices while reinforcing government commitment to improving learning outcomes.
