The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially appointed experienced football tactician John Edward Keister as the caretaker head coach of the Sierra Leone national men’s football team, Leone Stars.

According to a press release issued by the SLFA Executive Committee on Sunday, the appointment will remain in effect pending the recruitment of a substantive head coach for the national team.

Keister, who currently serves as the SLFA Technical Director, will lead the Leone Stars during the upcoming FIFA international window in June. He will be supported by Alhaji Foray as Assistant Coach I and Mohamed Lamin Kamara as Assistant Coach II.

The coaching team has been tasked with preparing the national side for two international friendly matches against neighboring Liberia. Sierra Leone is scheduled to host Liberia on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Southern Arena in Bo City before traveling to Monrovia for the return fixture at the SKD Stadium on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The SLFA Executive Committee expressed confidence in the technical expertise, experience, and leadership of the newly appointed coaching trio as the Leone Stars continue preparations for future international assignments.

Meanwhile, the association confirmed that efforts to recruit a permanent head coach for the national team are ongoing.

The announcement was signed by Ibrahim Kamara, Head of Media and Marketing at the Sierra Leone Football Association.
