The High Commission of India in Freetown has conducted an orientation programme for Sierra Leonean beneficiaries of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Scholarship Programme for the 2026-27 academic year.

The programme brought together 50 scholarship awardees, comprising 30 undergraduate students, 15 postgraduate scholars, and five PhD candidates, who are preparing to pursue higher education in various institutions across India.

During the orientation, the scholars were briefed on pre-departure requirements, academic expectations, life in India, and the opportunities available to them during their studies.

The High Commission encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity, describing them as future ambassadors who will contribute to strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between India and Sierra Leone.

The Government of India provides 50 fully funded scholarships annually to Sierra Leonean students through the ICCR Scholarship Programme, enabling them to access quality education at recognised Indian institutions.

The selected scholars are expected to commence their academic journeys in India and further deepen the educational and cultural ties between the two countries.
