The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has officially introduced the ministry’s newly designated Deputy Ministers to staff and project teams during the ongoing Mid-Year Review Workshop of Agricultural Projects in Bo.
The introduction formed part of efforts to strengthen the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) as it advances the implementation of the Government’s flagship Feed Salone initiative.
Addressing participants at the workshop, Dr. Kpaka described the two designated Deputy Ministers as young, energetic, and committed professionals who have already made meaningful contributions to Sierra Leone’s agricultural development.
He introduced Dr. Isata Kamanda as Designated Deputy Minister I, noting that she is a scientist from the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI).

According to the Minister, Dr. Kamanda has played a significant role in the development and release of high-yielding crop varieties aimed at improving agricultural productivity and food security.
Dr. Kpaka also presented Ing. Bryan Smart-Kanu as Designated Deputy Minister II. He described him as a civil and irrigation engineer who has worked extensively in promoting sustainable agriculture through irrigation and infrastructure development.
Speaking after the introductions, the Minister said the appointments reflected President Julius Maada Bio’s confidence in the capacity of young professionals to contribute to national development.
“I now know why President Bio appointed these two young people. They are experienced and have contributed so much to food security. Working together, our goal is to ensure we scale up and sustain the government’s investments through the Feed Salone agenda,” Dr. Kpaka stated.
The two designated Deputy Ministers were formally introduced to all MAFS staff, including directors, technical officers, and project implementation teams attending the workshop.
The Mid-Year Review Workshop is bringing together ministry officials and project stakeholders to assess progress, identify challenges, and strengthen coordination in the implementation of agricultural programmes across the country.
