Sierra Leonean environmental advocate Komrabai Dumbuya has been recognised among the Queen Elizabeth II Commonwealth Trust’s 100 Young Leaders for 2026, in recognition of his work in climate action and community development.
The recognition was presented to Dumbuya by the British High Commissioner in Sierra Leone on behalf of the Trust, according to the announcement.
The Queen Elizabeth II Commonwealth Trust has also publicly identified Dumbuya as its 2026 Sierra Leone awardee, describing him as the founder and CEO of Wanwod Development.

Dumbuya’s work centres on environmental sustainability, climate resilience and community-based development. Through Wanwod Development, he has promoted initiatives aimed at addressing environmental degradation while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
A Global Centre on Adaptation case study identifies Dumbuya as the founder and executive director of Wanwod Development Organisation and highlights the organisation’s work in Sanda Magbolontor Chiefdom, including climate-resilient agriculture and efforts to combat deforestation.
The organisation has established a 20-acre demonstration farm featuring cashew production and has trained farmers in areas including climate adaptation, agroforestry and business development, according to the Global Centre on Adaptation.

The 2026 QECT recognition comes as the Trust marks what would have been the 100th birthday of its founding patron, Queen Elizabeth II. The initiative recognises young leaders across the Commonwealth whose work reflects service, inclusion, collaboration and community impact.
The Trust said its Sierra Leone recognition is part of a broader effort to spotlight young people working across areas including the environment, health, food and agriculture, education and employability, and inclusion.

Dumbuya is listed among the African recipients of the 2026 QECT 100 Young Leaders recognition alongside young leaders from countries across the continent.
His recognition adds international attention to Sierra Leonean youth leadership in environmental sustainability and locally driven development, while highlighting the role of young changemakers in addressing community and climate challenges.
