Three men reportedly affected by the drug commonly known as “Cush” are appealing for urgent medical assistance after suffering severe physical conditions, including serious injuries and deterioration of their feet.
One of the men, identified as Foday Conteh from the Sierra Rutile area in Moyamba District, said his condition has deteriorated significantly, with his feet severely affected.
Conteh appealed for immediate medical intervention, saying he is prepared to undergo amputation if doctors determine that it is necessary to save his life.
His condition has raised concern over the severity of the injuries, which require urgent professional medical assessment and treatment.
Another man among the three was approached for an account of his condition but was reportedly unconscious at the time and unable to speak or respond to questions.
The third man, identified as Alhaji Momodu from the Bo Shemingo area, said his condition has become so severe that he can no longer walk. He said his feet have deteriorated significantly and appealed to members of the public and his relatives for urgent assistance.
Momodu also called on his family and community members to come and take him home.
The men also complained of hunger and a lack of basic necessities while in their current condition. Food and water were subsequently provided to them.
Their situation highlights concerns over the serious health and social consequences associated with substance abuse and the need for appropriate medical, rehabilitation and social support for people experiencing severe substance-related complications.
Medical professionals and relevant authorities are being urged to assess the men and provide appropriate treatment, while their relatives and community members are encouraged to respond to their appeals for assistance.
