Justice Adrian Fisher of the High Court in Freetown has remanded 27-year-old Hellen Kuyateh to the Female Correctional Facility after she pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited drugs.
Kuyateh appeared before the High Court in connection with an incident on June 11, 2026, when law enforcement officers intercepted her along Regent Road in the Western Area of Freetown.
A search conducted by the officers reportedly led to the recovery of 82 wraps of Kush, a synthetic cannabinoid, weighing approximately 90.9 grams. The substance was allegedly in her possession for distribution without lawful authority.
Kuyateh subsequently appeared before the High Court and entered a guilty plea to a two-count indictment relating to unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited substances.
The charges were brought under Sections 8(a) and 7(c) of the National Drugs Control Act, 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).
Following her guilty plea, Justice Fisher ordered that Kuyateh remain in custody at the Female Correctional Facility pending sentencing.
The matter has been adjourned to October 16, 2026, when the case is expected to return to court for further proceedings.
The case comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities to tackle the growing circulation of Kush and other prohibited substances in Sierra Leone.
