The Management of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has in a public notice informed the general public, especially motorists that it has decided to extend the temporary closure of the failed sections along Kissy Road and Kroo Town Road.

The two roads are closed to traffic until Monday, February 27, 2023. This according to the SLRA is to enable the contractors deliver satisfactory work and for the concrete to properly cure.

The Management explained that during the excavation of the failed section at Kissy Road, their engineers on site discovered that there were more utilities installed underneath the road corridor than expected, and that the utility service providers – Guma Valley Water Company, Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority, and Sierratel need to attend to the utilities before their contractors progress with the works.

SLRA continued that as result of the aforementioned problem, they are constrained to expedite the works as planned. It However, assured the public that they are making considerable progress to ensure that works are completed and the road reopens to normal traffic within the new timeframe.

It encouraged motorists to continue using these recommended alternative routes:

“ • Kissy Road: Vehicles and Tricycles (Kekes) coming from the West may use the Hill Side Bye Pass Road or Fourah Bay Road. Vehicles and Tricycles (Kekes) coming from the East may use the Hillside Bye Pass Road, Upgun – Kissy Road via Upper Savage and Lower Savage Street – Fourah Bay Road.

Kroo Town Road: Vehicles and Tricycles (Kekes) may use Syke Street – Adelaide Street, Kroo Town Road – Kroo Bay – Lightfoot Boston Street”

The Management registered their regrets to any inconvenience this may caused to the general public, adding that they remain committed to ensuring a safe, reliable and sustainable national road network.
