The management of Sierra Leonean hip-hop rapper Boss LA has declined a nomination from the Zikomo Africa Awards, citing concerns about the credibility and organisation of the awards.
In a statement issued on September 11, 2026, by Red Flag Muzik (RFM), the label said it had reviewed information about the awards and identified what it described as unanswered questions regarding their structure and operations.
According to RFM, the Zikomo Africa Awards are presented as a Tanzania-based initiative, while a key contact associated with the voting process is reportedly based in Makeni, Sierra Leone.
“This has raised questions for our management that have not been sufficiently clarified,” the statement read.
The label said the nature, organisation and authenticity of the awards remained unclear to its management.
RFM also said it would not encourage Boss LA’s fans and supporters to spend money on voting or participating in the awards process on his behalf.
“We have a responsibility to protect our fans and supporters. We therefore do not encourage our fans to spend their hard-earned money on voting or participating in this process on behalf of King Boss LA,” the statement added.
The management further requested that the Zikomo Africa Awards Committee immediately stop using Boss LA’s name, image, likeness and other branding materials in connection with the awards or voting campaign unless expressly authorised.
RFM concluded by urging the public to disregard the Zikomo Africa Awards voting campaign involving Boss LA until further notice.
