Leone Stars Complete Second Training Session Ahead of Zimbabwe AFCON Qualifier
Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars have completed their second training session in Morocco as the team steps up preparations for Thursday’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe.
The session forms part of the squad’s final preparations for the Group E encounter, scheduled for September 24 in El Jadida, Morocco. CAF has confirmed the match for 7 p.m. GMT.
The Leone Stars arrived in Morocco on September 20 and established their training camp in El Jadida ahead of the fixture.
The team’s latest training session focused on preparations for the opening competitive test, with the players continuing to work on coordination and match readiness ahead of the Zimbabwe clash.
Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe are both in Group E alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea. The group’s other opening match will see DR Congo face Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
Following Thursday’s opener, Sierra Leone will travel to face Equatorial Guinea on Sept. 28, while Zimbabwe will host DR Congo on the same day.
The Leone Stars are seeking a positive start to their qualification campaign as they pursue a place at the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
