The National Public Health Agency (NPHA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), has conducted a targeted engagement session with high-risk groups across the Western Area to bolster Mpox prevention strategies and strengthen regional Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness.

The initiative, supported by funding from the People of Japan, forms a core part of Sierra Leone’s ongoing strategy to enhance risk communication, community engagement (RCCE), and local epidemic readiness.

Speakers representing the NPHA, WHO, and the Government of Japan stressed that community participation and early detection are vital safeguards against viral resurgences.

The outreach included small-group breakout sessions and a live Q&A segment, allowing community leaders and high-risk representatives to address local health concerns, clarify reporting pathways, and give feedback on public health guidelines.

Officials confirmed that feedback gathered during these sessions will directly inform ongoing preparedness frameworks for Mpox, Ebola, and other priority public health threats across Sierra Leone.
