Sierra Leone witnessed a momentous occasion as His Excellency Joseph Boakai, President of Liberia, arrived via the Liberia-Pujehun highway. The meticulously planned event reflected the Country’s commitment to excellence, hospitality, and regional cooperation.
The 5 Brigade Gondama Barracks, under the leadership of Brigadier General G.M. Bangura, took centre stage with a flawless Guard of Honor parade held in Jendema. This ceremonial display was enhanced by vibrant performances from Cultural Dance Troupes, showcasing Sierra Leone’s rich traditions and artistic heritage.
Adding to the grandeur, Paramount Chiefs and other dignitaries graced the occasion, their presence emphasizing the historical and cultural ties between Sierra Leone and Liberia. The event served as a reminder of the deep-rooted unity and mutual respect shared by the two nations.
A robust joint security operation ensured the safety and smooth passage of President Boakai and his entourage. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), led by Regional Police Commander South, AIG Mr. Brima Kanneh, strategically deployed officers across major towns from Jendema to Bo City and beyond. The operation was further bolstered by the involvement of the Office of National Security (ONS), the Fire Force, and the Road Safety Corps, exemplifying inter-agency collaboration.
The Police presence extended to key locations, including the National Social Security and Insurance Trust ( NASSIT) office in Bo, with security coverage continuing seamlessly to Freetown. AIG Kanneh ensured the safety of the Liberian President, travelling with the convoy up to Masiaka to oversee operations.
The successful coordination of this high-profile visit highlights the exceptional leadership of Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu, whose strategic decisions have strengthened the institution’s ability to meet public expectations. AIG Kanneh, benefiting from IG Sellu’s mentorship, continues to lead by example, ensuring operational excellence across the Southern Region.
This remarkable event, marked by cultural vibrancy and security professionalism, stands as a testament to Sierra Leone’s capability to host dignitaries with dignity, respect, and flair.
