Sierra Leone has been crowned the champion of the Jollof War 2025 competition, triumphing over ten other West African nations in the fiercely contested culinary event held in Accra, Ghana.

The victory, announced at the annual 3FM Afro Connect Festival on September 21, 2025, asserts Sierra Leone’s claim to having the best Jollof rice in the region.

The competition took place at the iconic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

A total of eleven countries participated in the Jollof ‘War,’ including regional heavyweights Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as Togo, Gambia, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Benin. Sierra Leone’s victory secures its second title, having previously won the competition in 2023.

The country now holds the bragging rights as the supreme ruler of Africa’s Jollof until the next annual event.

The 3FM Afro Connect Festival, organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah, featured cultural exchange, trade exhibitions, and culinary delights from various African nations. Winners of the Jollof War and other activities received prizes and souvenirs from event sponsors.
