The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq., alongside representatives from Liberia and Guinea, participated in a Peace Match in Koindu, a township organized by the United Christian Evangelical Fellowship International to call for peace.

The event, which was as held on Saturday, 12th April, 2024, drew hundreds of attendees from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, all united in a shared call for peace.

During his address, Minister Lengor emphasized the importance of tranquility among the three nations, stating that the people had expressed a clear desire for peace and an end to conflict. “The people wanted peace between the three countries and that they didn’t want war,” he affirmed, highlighting the community’s frustration over the ongoing Yenga issue.

The minister urged the Guinean representatives present to collaborate on resolving the situation, addressing the sentiments of the Yenga and Koindu communities. He noted, “The people of Yenga and Koindu were frustrated and tired of the present situation.”

Following the Peace Match, Minister Lengor met with the Local Police Partnership Board, which included stakeholders from the three Kissis, along with their Paramount Chiefs and Regents. He reassured the attendees that the government is actively aware of the Yenga situation. “I and the Cabinet are seized of it, and we are working actively and doing everything possible to resolve the situation,” he stated.

The community leaders expressed their gratitude for the minister’s presence and support, reinforcing the need for patience and continued efforts to maintain peace. Minister Lengor concluded his day by returning to Kailahun to partake in the traditional laying to rest of Rtd Captain Sahr James Foyah, a revered figure known for his contributions within the NRC.
