The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Jakarta, Indonesia, has announced the death of a Sierra Leonean citizen, identified as Mr. James Sesay, who passed away under undisclosed circumstances while on a temporary visit to Indonesia.

The deceased, who recently entered the country on a Japanese eVisa as a temporary visitor, had his documents processed and issued in Jakarta on June 18, 2024, and was scheduled to stay for 15 days.

Mr. Sesay held a valid Sierra Leonean passport and was in possession of a single-entry visa, categorized under “(V) AS TEMPORARY VISITOR”. Authorities revealed that his body was found in a private residence on a tourist hill in the city of Jakarta.

Local authorities are currently working closely with the Sierra Leonean Embassy to determine the cause of death and to ensure proper diplomatic and legal protocols are followed.

In a public statement released by the embassy, officials are urgently calling on the general public, especially Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad, to assist in locating the family or next of kin of the deceased.

The embassy emphasized the importance of contacting Mr. Sesay’s parents or relatives as soon as possible to proceed with necessary arrangements, including the repatriation or burial of the remains.

The embassy has also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and promised to ensure that the deceased is treated with dignity in accordance with both Indonesian law and Sierra Leonean customs.
