Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) and Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) have successfully concluded their three-year collaboration as part of the Women and Girls FIRST financial inclusion project, funded by Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA).
This initiative has made significant strides in Kenema, Port Loko, and Kambia districts, recruiting 150 “Financial Champions” from project project Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs).
These champions have been registered and trained as GTBank mobile banking agents to support remote communities across eight chiefdoms, boosting financial inclusion.
The Women and Girls FIRST project aims to improve financial access and resilience for women and girls in these regions.

You are great partner. Thanks to CAFOD, JOA, and more especially KADDRO and Caritas ,the implementing partners in Sierra Leone Kambia, Port Loko and Kenema to be specific. This project has great a great impact in people’s lives in the rural communities. These have learnt people how to save in their VSLA box, loan themselves with low interest rate which is referred to as service charge. It is called service charge because at the end of the year during their share-out(graduation) it is going to be shared to all 25 members. If you contributed the highest, you get more income than others. This brings peace of mind in our people’s lives in the rural communities not like before when Micro-Credits were chasing our people from their communities to go somewhere else leaving their families. This was as a result of not having business ideas before compared to now.
CAFOD and JOA said as the name implies,Women and Girls First ,a financial inclusion project ,more of women and girls should be financially included. This is because, most of the women in Sierra Leone are financially excluded and it is bad. Women are the best managers of homes. These is why CAFOD and JOA decided to be partners with GTBANK and Orange money. That the VSLA money should not only be in the box but also in the bank through mobile banking for security reasons.
There are more good thinks in this project. Reserve for another time.
Bravo to all partners GTBANK,Orange money and Mosabi for introducing this systems to our rural community people. Thanks ,thanks, thanks. We pray for more project like this to change the lives of our rural people.
I stand to be corrected.
