A 31-year-old Sierra Leonean man residing in Walworth, South London, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including wounding with intent, after a violent attack at a distribution warehouse in Sutton where he was previously employed.
Babah Sesay, 31, appeared at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, March 20th, and admitted to 10 charges related to the incident that occurred on the morning of Thursday, January 23rd. The charges include five counts of wounding with intent and one count of actual bodily harm, among others.
On the day of the attack, Sesay forcibly entered the distribution center in Beddington and assaulted several former colleagues. Five men were subsequently hospitalized: one in his 50s, two in their 30s, and two in their 20s. Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries sustained by the victims were life-threatening or life-changing.
Following the stabbings, Sesay fled the scene but was apprehended approximately an hour later at a nearby restaurant. He received treatment for minor injuries before being taken into custody. In addition to the wounding charges, he was also charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, one count of assault by beating, and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.
Detective Superintendent Dan Rutland, who oversees policing in south London, commented on the swift response of officers, stating, “The swift actions of our officers helped to ensure no one was seriously hurt in this incident. I hope this, and the judicial result, brings closure and comfort to those involved and highlights to the community that we will not tolerate violence in any form.”
Babah Sesay, the Sierra Leonean national, is scheduled to be sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, June 5th, 2025.
