The Pujehun District Education Office has released a report summarizing the submission of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the verification of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.

The report, which lists several schools across the district, highlights the number of candidates cleared and not cleared for the WASSCE, shedding light on eligibility issues faced by some schools.

A total of 2,117 candidates were submitted for verification, but only 853 candidates were cleared, leaving 1,264 students ineligible due to unverified or missing BECE results.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Ahmadiyya Agricultural School in Pujehun submitted 205 candidates, but only 44 were cleared, leaving 161 students unable to take the WASSCE, with a clearance rate of 21.5%.

  • Ahmadiyya Muslim Senior Secondary School in Bandajuma Sowa had a slightly higher clearance rate of 24.5%, with 94 out of 383 candidates cleared.

  • The Gallines Perri Secondary School in Blama Massaquoi submitted 256 candidates, with 193 cleared, showing a 75.4% clearance rate.
  • Holy Rosary Secondary School in Pujehun reported a high clearance rate, with 102 out of 105 candidates eligible for the WASSCE (97.1%).
  • Some schools, like Barri Islamic Secondary School in Potoru and Government Secondary School Pujehun, had zero candidates cleared due to missing original submissions, affecting their participation entirely.

Several schools faced challenges with missing original submissions, leaving hundreds of students unable to sit for their WASSCE. The district education authorities are expected to address these submission and verification issues to ensure that all students can participate in future examinations.

This report underscores the importance of timely and accurate submission of student results for external exams like the WASSCE to avoid such significant ineligibility rates.
